Jaipur · How to Reach

Jaipur is one of the best-connected cities in northern India, which is a large part of why it anchors the Golden Triangle. Whether you arrive by air, rail or road, the journey is straightforward and the city sits at a natural crossroads between Delhi, the deserts of western Rajasthan and the industrial belt running down toward Gujarat and Mumbai.

By air. Jaipur International Airport (IATA code JAI, ICAO VIJP) lies at Sanganer, roughly 10–13 km south of the walled city, so transfers into town are quick outside of rush hour. It handles a heavy schedule of domestic flights connecting Jaipur with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and other major hubs, plus a limited slate of international services to the Gulf and a handful of regional destinations. For most overseas visitors, the practical routing is an international arrival at Delhi followed by a short domestic hop or an easy overland leg down to Jaipur. Prepaid taxis, app-cabs and airport buses all serve the terminal.

By rail. Jaipur Junction (station code JP) is the principal railhead and a major stop on the broad-gauge line linking Delhi with Ahmedabad and Mumbai, so trains run frequently in every direction. The Delhi–Jaipur corridor is especially dense: fast, chair-car services such as the Shatabdi Express and the double-decker trains cover the route in roughly four to five hours, making a same-day connection from the capital entirely realistic. Jaipur also has direct trains to Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Agra and beyond, which makes it an ideal launch point for a wider Rajasthan itinerary. Note that a couple of secondary stations (Gandhinagar Jaipur and Durgapura) handle some services, but JP is the one to aim for.

By road. The Delhi–Jaipur route along NH 48 is one of India's busiest intercity highways — a multi-lane road of roughly 280 km that a car or bus typically covers in about five to six hours depending on traffic around Gurugram and the toll plazas. Ongoing expressway upgrades have steadily cut journey times. Frequent state and private buses, including air-conditioned Volvo coaches, run from Delhi and from other Rajasthan cities into the Sindhi Camp central bus stand. Agra lies to the east, making the Jaipur–Agra leg of the Golden Triangle an easy half-day drive.

Getting around town. Inside the city, the Jaipur Metro's Pink Line runs east–west from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar in the heart of the old walled city, calling at Jaipur Junction, the Sindhi Camp bus stand and near several heritage sites — a fast, cheap way to reach the pink quarter. Beyond the metro, autorickshaws, cycle-rickshaws (still common inside the walls), app-based cabs and metered taxis cover everything else. The walled city itself is best explored on foot; its grid makes navigation unusually easy, but the bazaar lanes are congested, so park or alight at a chaupar and walk. Agree auto fares before setting off, or use an app to avoid haggling.
