Ranthambore is easy to reach by Indian standards, largely because Sawai Madhopur sits squarely on one of the country's busiest railway arteries. For most travellers the journey is a train to Sawai Madhopur followed by a short road transfer to the park zone gates; there is no airport at the reserve itself, and the flying option means landing at Jaipur and driving.

By train. This is the natural way in. Sawai Madhopur Junction (station code SWM) lies on the main Delhi–Mumbai trunk line, which means a very large number of express, superfast and premium trains pass through, connecting it directly to Delhi, Jaipur, Kota, Mumbai and many other cities. From Jaipur the run is short and frequent; from Delhi it is a comfortable half-day; and there are well-known fast services, including premium trains, that make Sawai Madhopur a straightforward booking from the capital. The station is only a few kilometres from the town's hotels and around 13 kilometres from the park entrance, so an auto-rickshaw or taxi completes the trip quickly. By road. Sawai Madhopur is roughly 130 kilometres from Jaipur and 180-odd kilometres from Kota, both connected by decent state and national highways, and the drive from Jaipur typically takes around three hours. From Delhi the road distance is longer (of the order of 350–400 kilometres depending on route), so most Delhi visitors prefer the train. Private taxis and some buses serve the route, but Ranthambore is not primarily a bus destination — the rail link is so good that road travel is usually a Jaipur-side add-on rather than the main journey.

By air. There is no airport at Ranthambore. The practical air gateway is Jaipur International Airport (JAI), about 130–160 kilometres away by road (allow roughly three to four hours to the park, depending on the exact zone gate and traffic). Jaipur has broad domestic connectivity and a limited international schedule, so the usual pattern is to fly into Jaipur and continue by pre-arranged taxi or by train onward to Sawai Madhopur. Always confirm current Jaipur routes and your onward transfer before planning around tight timings.

Getting around once you arrive. Sawai Madhopur town and the strip of hotels along the Ranthambore Road toward the park are covered by auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws and taxis; fixing a fare before you set off saves friction. The crucial point is that you do not drive yourself into the park — private vehicles are not permitted inside the tiger reserve. All safaris are conducted in authorised open Gypsy 4x4s and larger open Canter trucks allotted through the forest booking system, and these vehicles, with their assigned driver and forest guide, pick up and drop at the hotels or a designated point before entering the zone gate. In practice your in-park transport is entirely handled by the safari system; your own logistics only need to get you from the station to your hotel and to the pickup point on time.
