Mussoorie has no railway station and no airport of its own — it is a mountain town at the end of a winding hill road, and every route to it runs through Dehradun, the Uttarakhand state capital in the valley below. Getting there is really a two-part exercise: reach Dehradun by train, air or road, then climb the last 35 kilometres or so up to the ridge. That final ascent, a steady series of hairpin bends gaining well over a thousand metres, is a scenic drive in its own right and typically takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic.

By train. The nearest railhead is Dehradun Junction (station code DDN), the terminus of several important lines from the plains. Popular services connect it with Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh and beyond, including fast day trains and overnight expresses; a semi-high-speed Vande Bharat-class service has also run on the Delhi–Dehradun corridor. From the station forecourt you continue up to Mussoorie by taxi or bus. By air. The gateway airport is Dehradun (Jolly Grant, code DED), about 25–30 kilometres beyond Dehradun city on the Rishikesh side and therefore roughly 55–60 kilometres and around two hours from Mussoorie. It handles domestic flights from Delhi, Mumbai and several other cities; the exact roster changes, so confirm current routes before planning around them. From the airport, pre-paid taxis and app cabs run up to Mussoorie, usually via Dehradun.

By road. Mussoorie is about 290 kilometres from Delhi, a drive of roughly six to eight hours via Meerut and Dehradun. Most road travellers come up from Dehradun, from where two things happen at once: the ISBT bus stand and the railway station both serve as departure points for the hill. State and private buses run to Mussoorie through the day, and — often quicker and more flexible — shared and private taxis leave frequently from near the Dehradun railway station, filling up and heading straight uphill. The road forks near the top into the two ends of town (the Library/Gandhi Chowk end and the Picture Palace/Kulri end), so tell your driver which side your stay is on.

Getting around once you arrive. Mussoorie is strung out along a ridge, and much of the pleasure of the place is walking it — The Mall Road, Camel's Back Road and the Landour lanes are best done on foot. For longer hops, local taxis work on point-to-point rates between the main nodes (Library, Picture Palace, Landour, Kempty Falls, George Everest), and it is normal to hire a car with driver for a half-day sightseeing loop. Note that The Mall is subject to vehicle restrictions and a toll during busy hours, and parking near the centre is limited and can be slow in peak season, so many visitors park once and walk.
