Sample itineraries for Jim Corbett
Corbett works best as a two- or three-day trip, long enough to fit in more than one safari — which matters, because multiple drives are how you improve your odds of a sighting. Anchor the whole plan around booked safari slots and zone availability, since the gates run on fixed morning and afternoon timings and the core zones are seasonal.
Two days (the standard weekend). The most common shape of a Corbett trip from Delhi.
- Day 1: Arrive at Ramnagar in the morning (an overnight train works well), check in, and rest before the afternoon jeep safari in Bijrani or, in the monsoon, Jhirna or Dhela. In the late evening, if time allows, visit Garjia Devi Temple on the Kosi river.
- Day 2: An early morning jeep safari in a different zone or session for a fresh chance, then breakfast and a stop at Corbett Falls on the way out, before an afternoon departure.
Three days (the comfortable version). Adds a second full day so you can fit three safaris or reach a further zone, and takes the rush out of it.
- Day 1: Arrive, settle in, afternoon safari in Bijrani or Jhirna.
- Day 2: Morning canter or jeep safari into Dhikala (in season) for the grasslands and the reservoir; afternoon at leisure, or a second safari. Visit Garjia Devi Temple at dusk.
- Day 3: Early safari in Durga Devi (for birders) or a repeat of a favourite zone; then Corbett Falls and the Corbett Museum at Kaladhungi on the way back toward Ramnagar.
The Dhikala overnight (for the full immersion). If you can secure a room, build the trip around a night inside the park at the Dhikala forest lodge. Enter with your permit, spend the afternoon and following morning on drives within the Dhikala zone, watch the grassland and reservoir from the compound at dawn and dusk, and emerge with the kind of deep-forest experience day-visitors never get. Book this months ahead through the official forest department portal, as rooms are very limited.
Off-season / monsoon plan (July to mid-October). With the core zones closed, base a shorter one-to-two-day trip around the year-round buffer zones of Jhirna and Dhela, add the Sitabani buffer forest for birding, and lean on the non-safari sights — Corbett Falls, Garjia Devi Temple and the Kaladhungi museum — which are all at their greenest in the rains.
Corbett with the Kumaon hills. Because Corbett sits at the foot of the hills, it pairs naturally with a Himalayan add-on. Many travellers tack on Nainital (about 65 km away) for a lake-and-hill-station couple of days, or continue deeper to Ranikhet, Mukteshwar or Kausani. A rewarding week can combine a Corbett safari base with three or four days in the Kumaon hills.
